Its most notable feature is its superior obstacle avoidance. While mapping, it captures images of objects it encounters and learns their location in your home, which means you can teach it to avoid or clean up around them. You can also make use of the app to create a map of your home and identify specific areas you want to avoid. The j7+ can provide a photo of every obstacle it has encountered, allowing you to mark them as temporary or permanent ways to avoid them.

It was able, during our tests, to maneuver a variety of household obstacles and avoid getting stuck. It also did not chew cords or shoes as did the previous models. It even gave the pet waste a wide space (although it did get caught in socks and baseball caps). It was also very effective in picking up bigger spills, crumbs and other messes.

The robot can be programmed to vacuum and mop regularly which is great if you prefer mopping for your floors. It did an excellent job cleaning both surfaces in our apartment with mostly hardwood floors and a few area rug. The mops took longer than we would prefer but the floor was still clean.

It is also able to climb on high-pile flooring however, it might struggle to clean up fine debris. It also has some issues with hairs on this kind of carpet, but it's better than some competitors.

2. iRobot Roomba j9 Combo Plus

The j9 Combo Plus robot is the most advanced Roomba. It is suitable for carpets and comes with iRobot’s smartest features. These include the ability to activate duplicate cleaning passes and Dirt Detective which scans your home to discover the areas that are most filthy and prioritizes them to clean up. It also has a smart self-cleaning station, which automatically empty garbage bags and fills up the tank with water.

The Combo J9's basic design blends black and silver. It features a single-button that can start a cleaning task, as well a wall-follow sensor and a status indicator. On the back, Bagless Smart Sweepers a flap is lifted up to reveal a bracket which holds the mop pad plate. It was struggling to get rid of pet hair and dust on carpets that are soft. It was able to maneuver around obstacles however it took longer than other robots to finish its cleaning tasks.

The j9's intelligent features set it apart from other vacuum cleaners. The app allows you to create a cleaning plan for specific rooms and times, view your cleaning history, or get product information. You can also access advanced settings, like the ability to customize the suction power of your device and more.

iRobot DreameBot

The iRobot DreameBot is one of the few smart sweepers that has mopping capabilities. It has an 4.2-quart tank in its base to saturate its mop pads. Additionally, it regularly returns back to the base to wash away dirt and clean the pad. The DreameBot is also smarter than the majority of mopping robots we tested by using its lidar to map and change rooms as it works. Its AI-powered obstacle avoidance function was effective in our test room. It was able to avoid socks and cables without becoming confused. It did have some issues with a stack of Cheerios however.

The app provides an impressive amount of control and customization. It lets you define virtual no-go zones as well as dynamic cleaning zones for rooms or floors. It also comes with a surprising amount of suction at 4000Pa. This is easily higher than the combined 2,000Pa from the Roomba 13 or Bissell SpinWave. The battery has a large capacity at 5200mAH, giving you plenty of time to clean.

As a bonus, this model is iRobot OS compatible, meaning it gets updates to its software from the cloud as soon as they become available. The app also gives you the option of sending specific images of obstacles that it encounters to iRobot's servers which aids in improving its algorithms. iRobot states that it only uses images from users who have chosen to take part in this user-in-the loop training, and that the company does not use the images for any other purpose.

The DreameBot's physical controls are limited, with most options being accessible from the iRobot Home app or via Alexa and Google Home. You can opt to manually clean a specific area or begin with a general cleaning. You can also mop or vacuum on one cycle. The app allows you to set up the schedule for weekly, daily mopping and vacuuming cycles or a manual one.

iRobot narwal

The Narwal is a smart sweeper with a mopping system that does not require storing bags. It's a bit more expensive than the Roborock S7 MaxV ultra, Bagless Smart Sweepers but it has several advantages, including a better cleaning performance on carpets with low pile and rug, as well as the ability to mop more effectively and a self-cleaning station.
